Sonia Lopez Gonzalez, JD

Sonia is an alumna of the National Hispanic Institute.  She attended the High School for Law and Justice in Houston, TX, graduated from the University of Texas (2007) with a B.A./B.S. in Mexican American Studies and Political Communications, and completed her JD at South Texas College of Law.  She currently is the in-house counsel for the Houston Federation of Teachers.  She recently received the Mayor’s Hispanic Heritage Award.  She attended the 2000 NHI Texas Great Debate with the Greater Houston region, 2001 NHI Texas Lorenzo De Zavala Youth Legislative Session and 2002 NHI Collegiate World Series at Rice University.  She has volunteered at various local and national NHI programs for the past 16 years. She has been the Project Administrator for the NHI Greater Houston Region Great Debate since 2009.  She has been recognized as one of NHI’s Distinguished Alumna of the Year.
